PHILIP CHRISTOU 34 DRAWINGS is a catalogue of pencil drawings and objects made by the artist, designer and architectural design tutor Philip Christou. The book includes a short introduction text written by the artist that positions the drawings within the artistic and architectural cultural context that has helped to guide their making. The works in this collection were made in the 8 months leading up to a public exhibition that was held at the Between People Gallery at the University of East London in January 2026.
The works are abstract colour compositions mostly pencil on paper that emanate a calm and gentle presence while maintaining a quiet dynamism. A careful balance is struck in these compositions between the systematic order of a grid and the formation of a repeating pattern on the one hand, with an active play of colour and form relationships that never allows the eye to remain static.
